Questions we hear often
If yours isn't here, call us. There's no such thing as a silly question.
Getting started
How do I make an appointment?
Call 817-735-4165 and press 1, or request an appointment through our secure patient portal. New and returning clients can both request times online.
Do I need a referral?
Most clients do not need a referral to see us. Some insurance plans require one for counseling, so check with your plan. If your doctor has concerns, their notes are always welcome.
Which assessment should I choose?
You don't need to decide on your own. Tell us what you're noticing and we'll recommend the right evaluation, or let you know if a full evaluation isn't needed.
Testing and evaluations
What ages do you test?
From 12 months through adulthood. Autism testing can begin at 12 months and ADHD testing at 24 months. We group evaluations by age (12–24 months, 2–3, 3–5, 6, 7, 8–12, 13–18 and adult) and use the tools we trust most for each stage.
Is every evaluation a full battery?
No. There are two paths. A full battery is used for questions like autism, ADHD, learning and development. Focused diagnostic testing answers narrower questions, such as anxiety, depression or a personality disorder, with one or a few tests. It is generally shorter, less intensive and less expensive. Your provider recommends a path after the diagnostic interview.
How long does a full evaluation take?
Most comprehensive evaluations include 2 to 6 testing sessions of about 2 hours each, depending on age and the questions being asked. Forms from home and school, scoring, report writing and a feedback session follow.
What will the report look like?
Comprehensive reports range from 20 to 75 pages, depending on the complexity and the information needed. They include the results, analysis and evidence behind each conclusion, so schools, physicians and agencies can rely on it, including for disability and legal needs.
Who fills out forms?
Usually parents or guardians, teachers, and sometimes other adults who know the person well. Adults may ask a partner or family member to help.
Should my child take their medication on testing days?
Please ask us before your first testing session. The answer depends on the questions the evaluation is meant to answer.
Counseling and telehealth
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. Our board-certified telemental health providers see clients by secure video anywhere in Texas.
Can faith be part of counseling?
If you'd like it to be. Our providers are glad to integrate faith and spirituality when a client asks, and never otherwise.
Insurance and payment
Do you take insurance?
We accept most major insurance for initial evaluations and counseling. Comprehensive testing is self-pay.
Why is testing self-pay?
Insurance often limits how much testing can be done and which tests can be used. Self-pay lets your provider use every test the question calls for.
How much does testing cost?
It depends on what your provider finds is needed. Until the diagnostic interview shows which tests are required to answer your question, cost can vary a great deal, so we don't quote testing prices over the phone. You can ask for a Good Faith Estimate at any time. We'll give you one for the diagnostic interview, then a new written estimate for testing once your plan is set, before testing begins.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, All major credit cards, CareCredit financing. CareCredit lets you spread the cost of testing over time. You can apply online from our Insurance & fees page.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give us at least 2 business days’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. For a Monday appointment, that means letting us know by the same time on the Thursday before. Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged a fee.
Do you provide court, disability or ESA documentation?
Yes. Court and legal services, Disability paperwork, Emotional support animal (ESA) letters, Records and reports are billed separately from testing and counseling. Please call 817-735-4165 for current fees.
How do I pay a bill?
You can view statements and pay in the patient portal, or pay a balance by card with our secure quick-pay page.
Wondering what a full evaluation might show?
Every person is different, and so is every evaluation. Tell us what you're noticing and we'll help you decide whether a closer look makes sense.
