Assessments that take the time to understand

Every evaluation begins with your questions. We choose tests for the person's age and concerns, gather views from home and school, and look for everything that might be going on, not only the first possibility.

Two paths to answers

Your provider recommends a path after the diagnostic interview. If a focused test can answer your question, you won't be asked to complete a full battery.

Full battery

For autism, ADHD, learning, language and developmental questions, or when several concerns overlap.

  • A detailed history and forms from home, school and others
  • 2 to 6 testing sessions of about 2 hours each
  • Look-alike and co-occurring conditions ruled in or out
  • A comprehensive report, usually 20 to 75 pages, and a feedback session
What a full battery involves

Focused diagnostic testing

For a narrower question, such as anxiety, depression or a personality disorder, when one test or a few can answer it.

  • A diagnostic interview to define the question
  • One or a few targeted measures
  • Generally shorter, less intensive and less expensive
  • A written summary with treatment recommendations
About focused testing

How deep a full battery goes

A brief screening can tell you whether a closer look is a good idea. A full battery is that closer look. It's one of two testing paths at Fair Winds, and it's the one used for autism, ADHD, learning and developmental questions.

Read what to expect
  1. 1

A conversation about what you're noticing

Where every evaluation, and every quick screening, begins.

  2. 2

A detailed developmental, medical and family history

From early milestones to today, so patterns are seen over time.

  3. 3

Forms from home, school and other observers

Parents or guardians, teachers and others each add their view.

  4. 4

2 to 6 direct testing sessions, about 2 hours each

Activities chosen for each age group, from 12 months to adult.

  5. 5

Ruling out co-occurring and look-alike conditions

Anxiety, mood, language, learning and attention are all considered.

  6. 6

About 9 hours of scoring, analysis and writing

Your provider pulls every result into one clear picture.

  7. 7

A comprehensive report, explained in person

Usually 20 to 75 pages, depending on the complexity and the information needed.

Exact steps depend on age and the questions being asked. Your provider will explain the plan for your evaluation before testing begins.

Not sure which assessment fits?

That's one of the most common questions we hear. Call and tell us what you're noticing. We'll help you choose, and if a full evaluation isn't needed, we'll tell you that too.
