Five small things that make testing day easier

Five simple ways to help your child feel comfortable and do their best on testing day, from sleep and snacks to talking about the visit.

A child with their hands raised

Families often ask how they can help their child get ready for an evaluation. The good news: you don’t need to do much. Here are five small things that help.

  1. Talk about it simply. “You’ll do puzzles and games with someone kind” is plenty.
  2. Protect sleep. A rested brain shows us what it can really do.
  3. Pack a snack. Breaks are part of the day, and a familiar snack helps.
  4. Bring the helpers. Glasses, hearing aids, a comfort item.
  5. Ask us about medications. We’ll tell you what to do on testing days.

Most of all, remember that there’s no passing or failing. Testing is simply how we learn the best way to help.

Wondering what a full evaluation might show?

Every person is different, and so is every evaluation. Tell us what you're noticing and we'll help you decide whether a closer look makes sense.
